Erice “Erice” Guerra filled in the role left by embattled star Denz “Abat” Anedez to help Cignal Ultra qualify for the Dota Pro Circuit: Season One Southeast Asia lower division, Sunday evening.
Cignal ended up at fifth-sixth place after capping off the Closed Qualifier Stage Two with one win, three draws, and a loss for a 5-5 tally.
The support-turned-carry starred in Cignal Ultra’s 1-1 draw against Galaxy Racer in their first match of the day.
Erice, who played Ursa in Game Two, was able to acclimate right away to his new role and punched in 18 kills, a death, and five assists to avoid the 0-2 sweep at the hands of the Malaysians.
Cignal, just like their opening game against Galaxy Racer, figured in another rough opener this time against Lilgun. The Warriors dropped Game One in just 27 minutes and 58 seconds and was outscored 17-37 in the kills department.
Hell-bent on entering the lower division, Erice teamed up with midlaner James “Jamesy” John to end the series at a 1-1 stalemate.
Jamesy put up eight kills, four deaths, and 14 assists playing Alchemist while Erice had nine kills, six deaths, and 10 assists with his Weaver in Game Two.
Cignal coach Jae “JAE” Paulo, who was forced to play, put up six kills, six deaths, and 14 assists while offlaner Van “VAN” Manalaysay had the same number of kills and deaths together with 19 assists.
123 spearheaded Lilgun in Game Two with nine kills, three deaths, and 12 assists.
Meanwhile, another Filipino squad in Smart Omega has qualified for the lower division after topping the Group B of the Closed Qualifier Stage Two.
The Dota Pro Circuit 2021: Season 1 Southeast Asia Regional League will begin on January 18, Monday.
