Like in SBP, MVP looks to pass baton to ASP as PLDT president

Manny Pangilinan is set to leave his post as president of PLDT. And just like in the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, he is looking at Al Panlilio as his successor.

Pangilinan has bared that he is nominating Panlilio to be the next president of the telecommunications giant while remaining as chairman to the board.

“I will retire as president and CEO and pass the baton over to Al.

“So I will stay on as chairman, of course, subject to the stakeholders’ consent to do that,” said Pangilinan.

Panlilio is currently the chief revenue officer of PLDT while serving as president and CEO of SMART.

For the past few years, PLDT and SMART have streamlined their operations.

For his part, Pangilinan, 74, has hinted at retirement.

“You know, as the years will pass by, you are physically less effective as you were.”

Panlilio also succeeded Pangilinan as president of the SBP with MVP remaining as chairman emeritus.

Panlilio is also the Philippine Olympic Committee’s first vice president, treasurer of the National Golf Association of the Philippines, and the governor of PBA club Meralco.
