Dwight Ramos leads Toyama to breakthrough win in B.League

Dwight Ramos continued his solid showing, and finally, it resulted in Toyama’s breakthrough win.

The Grouses breached the win column after hacking out an 82-67 victory over Osaka, Wednesday night in the 2021-22 B.League Season at the Toyama Seibutai Sports Center.

Ramos played his best game in a Grouses’ uniform, leading all scorers with 20 points on an 8-of-14 clip from the field to go with six rebounds, three assists, and a steal as his squad improved to 1-8.

The Filipino import put the exclamation point on Toyama’s first win with a steal and a bucket. That also concluded an 11-0 blast to close the match.

A short stab by Ira Brown at the 3:35 mark of the fourth period was the last converted basket by the Evessa to inch within four, 67-71.

The Grouses started the game firing on all cylinders, grabbing a 27-15 lead after the first quarter with Ramos scoring nine points.

But Osaka climbed back with an equally strong second frame, to enter halftime down by just two, 39-41.

Julian Mavunga filled the stat sheet for Toyama with 16 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, while Joshua Smith went 6-of-7 from the field to end with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Five players reached double figures in points for the 3-6 Osaka led by Perry Ellis’ 13 off the bench with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Rei Goda, Kyle Hunt, and DJ Newbill all finished with 12 points apiece while Brown had 10 on 13 shots.

Ramos and Toyama will face Division 2 team Aomori Wat’s and Kemark Cariño on Saturday, 9 am, at Hokkai Kitayell to start their All-Japan Cup tournament.
