Edrian Celestino registers new SP best in Warsaw Cup

Edrian Celestino broke his personal best after ending the short program of the 2021 CS Warsaw Cup with 66.58 points, Friday morning (Philippine time) at the Torwar II Rink in Warsaw, Poland.

The Fil-Canadian standout bettered his previous best of 65.11 set in the Four Continents Championships of last year. Celestino ended in 17th place after the first segment.

Celestino opened his program with a solid jump combination — triple lutz-triple toe loop — before nailing the subsequent double axel.

He bungled on a triple flip in the middle of the routine but did well on the other elements to recover and gain some points towards a total technical score of 31.28.

The 30th Southeast Asian Games silver medalist also ramped it up on program components after scoring 7’s in almost all criteria. He eventually took 35.30 overall for performance.

Yamamoto Sota leads the Japanese charge, taking the pole position over compatriot Shimada Koshiro and the rest of the pack. Yamamoto ended with 91.75 over the latter’s 90.55.

Celestino will look to finish strong as the free skate is scheduled on Friday.
