Rain or Shine continues to secure its future.
Just weeks after signing star guard Rey Nambatac to a three-year max extension, the Elasto Painters announced that they have also inked rookie Anton Asistio and sixth-year pro Norbert Torres to new two-year contracts.
The signing was also graced by player agent Marvin Espiritu, active consultant and basketball operations head Caloy Garcia, assistant team manager Jireh Ibañes, and team governor Atty. Mamerto Z. Mondragon.
RoS’ 22nd overall pick in last March’s Rookie Draft, Asistio had himself a solid run in the Philippine Cup. He averaged 5.7 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in nine games as he helped his side to a quarterfinal appearance.
The Ateneo product’s best performance of his young career thus far was against Barangay Ginebra last September 8. There, the 5-foot-10 guard finished with 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting, although it came in a losing effort.
Asistio was among the fearless rookies who delivered quite well for the Elasto Painters in the last cage wars, together with fifth overall selection Santi Santillan and Andrei Caracut, who was picked after him (23rd overall).
This extension marks yet another win for the 26-year-old gunner, who was recently named the first brand ambassador of ANTA Philippines.
Meanwhile, the sweet-shooting Torres staying put for a few more years means maintaining a solid presence upfront for Rain or Shine.
The 6-foot-6 big man played in all of their 13 games last conference and posted per-game norms of 6.7 points on a 45.7-percent clip and 3.3 rebounds — proof that he’s found a home in the Elasto Painters, where he’s been since 2018.
