Alister Borabo transfers from DLSU to a college in California

When the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament rolls around early next year, De La Salle University will not have one of its promising prospects.

Outside hitter Alister Borabo has quietly left La Salle early this year, moving to community college College of San Mateo.

Borabo, who stands at 5-foot-10, was recruited by La Salle back in 2019 after she graduated from Mercy Burlingame.

Borabo, who took up BS Entrepreneurship in La Salle, suited up for the Lady Spikers during their only game in UAAP Season 82 against Ateneo.

The pandemic though changed her plans, opting to go back to the US.

“I decided it was the better choice to continue my studies and play volleyball in the US,” she said in a tweet.

“I’m forever grateful for the opportunities DLSU gave me and will always hold the experience dear to my heart.”

Borabo already made her debut for the Bulldogs last September. San Mateo plays in the California Community College Athletic Association.

Last September, she had 18 points in their 25-21, 21-25, 19-25, 25-22, 15-11 win over Sierra. She had three points in their 25-10, 25-23, 25-23 loss to Feather River.

Then in a historic game against Cabrillo College last October 12, Borabo had nine points and 12 digs in San Mateo’s 20-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-22 win that busted Cabrillo’s 121 game winning streak in the Coast Conference.

Borabo and the Bulldogs take on Hartnell College on Wednesday (Manila time).
