That’s how Mark Alfafara saw Go for Gold-Air Force’s hard-fought, five-set victory over VNS on the opening day of the PNVF Champions League.
“Siyempre ano, ‘di ganon sa ineexpect namin,” said Alfafara made his Aguilas debut on Monday afternoon.
“Pero at the end of the day kasi nakuha pa rin namin yung goal namin which is manalo.”
Air Force, which loaded up with talent prior to the Champions League, had a rough start in its opening match — falling to a 1-2 disadvantage against the Geuel Asia-led Manileño Spikers.
The second-stringers led by Lloyd Josafat and Kim Dayandante then turned the game upside down sending the game to a decider through a huge win in the fourth set.
Josafat and Kim Malabunga then delivered the differential blows before Alfafara stepped up to complete the 23-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 15-11 comeback win.
The two-time Spikers’ Turf Best Opposite Spiker ended up with five blocks, including the game-winning rejection, to finish with a game-high 19 points along with nine excellent digs.
“Siyempre at least nakikita namin yung kailangan i-improve sa team and as individual players and ayun siguro, mamaya training ipo-polish namin yun,” said the 27-year-old Alfafara, who is also an assistant coach in University of Santo Tomas.
Go for Gold-Air Force moved up to 1-0 in Pool A and will next face Basilan tomorrow at 1:30 PM.
