Jamie Lim misses on Karate Worlds bronze

Jamie Lim absorbed a sorry loss in the repechage round of the female minus-61 kg, missing out on a podium finish in the 2021 WKF Senior World Championships held at the Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Thursday.

After making the quarterfinal the previous day, the 2019 Southeast Asian Games champion needed just one win in order to make the bronze medal match this morning. Nonetheless, she got the losing end of the judges’ eyes this time.

Lim and Netherlands’ Lynn Snel actually drew at 1 apiece at the end of the contest. However, since the Dutch took the first unopposed point of the match, she gained the advantage called senshu and consequently, the win.

Meanwhile, the two karatekas in kata likewise bowed out of medal contention.

Sarah Pangilinan went as far as the third round of the female class after solid performances in the first two rounds — the first of which she eventually won.

The 2019 SEA Games bronze medalist stunned the competition after topping Pool 5 in the opening round with a score of 24.94 on Chibana No Kushanku. She then clung on to third place in her group in the second round with 24.46on Papuren.

However, Pangilinan slipped into last place in the third round to eventually exit the championships. She ended with 22.86 on Suparinpei for her final routine.

On the men’s side, Joco Vasquez made the second round, but missed the third round after placing seventh among eight karatekas in the pool.

The former three-time national champion advanced into the second round with a third-place finish in the pool off a 22.52 of Chibana No Kushanku. However, Vasquez could not make it past his tight second-round pool with 22.66 of Chatanyara Kushanku.
