Meralco has made a sudden switch in imports due to circumstances beyond its control.
Shabazz Muhammad will no longer reinforce the Bolts for the upcoming 2021 PBA Governors’ Cup as he is dealing with a personal emergency.
Instead, Meralco has tapped 6-foot-6 Panamanian Tony Bishop as its import.
“We wish Shabazz the best in dealing with his family matters, and we are looking forward to welcoming Tony Bishop as our import for this conference,” read Bolts team manager Paolo Trillo’s statement.
A Dallas-born Panamanian, Bishop has been playing internationally since 2011. He recently finished a finals run in Puerto Rico’s Baloncesto Superior Nacional. There, he was one of the top performers for Guaynabo.
He is also a member of Panama’s national team.
The 32-year-old product of Texas State went undrafted in the 2011 NBA Draft.
He has also played in the G League, Denmark, Lithuania, Germany, Japan, and Romania.
