Jamie Lim goes for bronze in Karate Worlds

Jamie Lim booked a chance at a bronze medal after the conclusion of the elimination rounds of the WKF Senior World Championships 2021’s female minus-61 kg class, Wednesday at the Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

This result came after the 24-year-old missed out on the world title with a loss from world no. 7 in Ukraine’s Anita Serogina, 1-2, in the fourth round.

Nonetheless, since Serogina advanced into the gold medal match, Lim got a reprieve and will have a shot at two wins for the bronze on Thursday.

The reigning Southeast Asian Games champion in plus-61 kg earlier stunned Russian Karate Federation’s Alana Kochieva to kick off her impressive day.

She then got the better of the judges’ eyes in two straight instances to book her place in the quarterfinals. Lim took the wins over France’s Laura Sivert and Japan’s Shimada Sarara, in that order to set a showdown against Serogina.

The repechage round takes place on Thursday; and if Lim emerges victorious, the bronze medal match is set on Saturday.
