Greg Slaughter back with Ginebra

At last, Greg Slaughter is back.

Coach Tim Cone himself confirmed that the 7-foot slotman has returned to Barangay Ginebra, coming back to the team almost a year after his decision to enter a sabbatical following the expiration of his contract.

This confirmation comes after the 62-year-old mentor responded to a fan on Twitter, Wednesday night, where he said that there have been no developments within the Gin Kings except that Slaughter has signed with the club again.

Terms of the deal, however, were not disclosed.

Still, his return should only spark joy to the ka-Barangays, who have been waiting for him to come back especially now that Ginebra is out to defend the Philippine Cup title it won in last season’s bubble tournament in Clark.

Cone himself had said in past interviews that he would want Slaughter back for their title defense, given that reigning six-time MVP June Mar Fajardo will be back from an injury next season for San Miguel Beer.

Now he gets his wish, and the Gin Kings have become even more formidable. Slaughter joins a squad led by reigning All-Filipino BPC Stanley Pringle, LA Tenorio, Japeth Aguilar, and Scottie Thompson.

His return would also re-form the Barangay’s dreaded twin towers of him and the 6-foot-9 Aguilar, who has expressed before how much he’s looking forward to having his partner back in the fold – just like the old times.

Slaughter last played in the PBA in 2019 with norms of 9.8 points and 6.4 rebounds in 49 games. He was instrumental in Ginebra’s four championships from 2016-19, highlighted by three Governors’ Cup titles.
