Team Lakay’s Alvarez, ex-URCC champ Sangalang out to prove worth in The Apprentice: ONE

Two Filipinos will raise the country’s banner on the upcoming “The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition,” which premieres throughout Asia on March 18.

Louie Sangalang and Lara Pearl Alvarez will be featured alongside 14 more candidates from all over the world and include: Alvin Ang, Singapore; Irina Chadsey, Russia; Eugene Chung, United States; Teirra Kamolvattanavith, Thailand; Joy Koh, Singapore; Monica Millington, United States; Paulina Purnomowati, Indonesia; Jessica Ramella, Venezuela; Niraj Puran Rao, India; Nazee Sajedi, United States; Sho Takei, Japan; Clinton Tudor, New Zealand; Roman Wilson, United States; and Kexin Ye, Germany.

“From my end, what you can expect from me is for me to do my best,” Sangalang said.

“We’re representing the country. We’re representing the Philippines. We’re not perfect. We have to be honest about our shortcomings, but expect me to be at my best in this show.”

Alvarez likewise shared the same enthusiasm.

“They should look out for this,” she said.

“I’m going to do my best. I’m going to be real. Whatever they see in the show, that’s the real me. We’re going to be raising the Filipino flag in this competition.”

The Filipino pair will certainly be an interesting duo given their diverse backgrounds.

Sangalang is an appendiceal cancer survivor who later won the URCC Featherweight Title and in 2018 became the first Filipino cancer survivor to finish the North Pole Marathon.

Alvarez’s roots, on the other hand, are planted in the land of World Champions – Baguio City. She’s worked with Team Lakay while sharing the same struggles that the World Champions had to endure.

Whatever happens on the show, they just hope to get the support of their kababayans all the way through.

“I just hope, whatever happens, the country can support me because this isn’t easy. I hope to win or lose man, the country can support us, me and Pearl,” Sangalang said.

“I’m a full-blooded Igorota from the highlands – the Cordilleras. The Cordilleras have been a home of fighters, and I’ll be fighting for my hometown,” Alvarez added.

The winner of the show gets a one-year $250,000 contract to work under ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong as his protege in Singapore.
