Saitama Ageo Medics racked up their third-straight win after outlasting Denso, 24-26, 25-23, 25-19, 25-23, in the 2020-21 Japan V.League Division 1 women’s tournament, Saturday at the Hitachinaka Sports Park Gymnasium.
Jaja Santiago only played the first two sets, getting three points, including two blocks.
Mami Uchiseto was her usual self, producing 24 markers built on 21 attacks, two block kills, and a service ace.
Yuri Yoshino added 17 points, while Canadian Shainah Joseph chipped in 15 of her own.
The victory pushed Saitama’s win-loss slate to 10-8, leapfrogging Hisamitsu for the sixth seed.
More importantly, the win gave Ageo Medics a better chance to still qualify for the first to fourth-ranking match. The fourth-seeded Okayama is just a game ahead at 11-7.
Kathryn Plummer carried the fight for Denso with 31 points on 29 spikes, a block, and a service ace. No other Airybee scored in double figures as they slipped to 10-6.
Saitama looks to keep their streak when they battle the Hitachi Rivale for their penultimate regular round match tomorrow, 2 pm, at the same venue.
