Leyte fourth district representative Lucy Torres-Gomez has filed a resolution commending BREN Esports’ recent achievement in the M2 World Championship.
Torres-Gomez filed House Resolution No. 1524 to recognize the Bernard Chong-owned franchise’s historical feat.
BREN Esports topped the local scene after winning the MPL-Philippines Season Six and The Nationals Season Two, respectively. It became the first Filipino team to hoist the world title after beating MPL-Myanmar champion Burmese Ghouls via a 4-3 victory.
“As a rising industry which has been gaining popularity in an increasing number of countries, esports or competitive online gaming carries a lot of career opportunities and develops among its players the same athletic qualities of discipline, commitment, and professionalism,” Torres-Gomez said in the resolution.
“With the temporary stagnation or stoppage of a number of traditional athletic activities (such as contact sports) brought about by the pandemic and the increasing availability of online streaming media platforms, esports competitions have enjoyed phenomenal growth and promotion.”
BREN Esports swept the entire Group B to claim one of the four upper bracket slots in the playoff.
The Filipino powerhouse then fell prey to the Burmese Ghouls which dropped them to the lower bracket.
There, BREN Esports dispatched champion after champion including MPL-MY/SG titlist Todak, MPL Invitational champion Alter Ego, and MPL-Indonesia winner RRQ Hoshi to make their way up the grand finals.
Bren Esports banked the US$140,000 (over P6.7 million) top prize while Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno took home $3,000 for winning the Finals MVP plum.
Composing the squad coached by two-time world champion Francis “Duckeyyy Glindro are Cj “Ribo” Ribo, Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel, Allan “Lusty” Castromayor, David “FlapTzy” Canon, Efphraim “Ejhay” Sambrano, and Mico “Coco” Sampang.
