SMART CLARK GIGA CITY – Meralco attacked from all angles and frustrated Barangay Ginebra, 95-77, to even up the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup semifinals Friday at the SMART 5G-powered AUF Sports and Cultural Center.
The Bolts were completely far from the team that played in the series opener last Wednesday as they deployed a spread-out attack this time around en route to tying the best-of-five affair at one game apiece.
Six players finished in double figures in the win, led by Chris Newsome with 16 points, nine of which came in the third quarter where they turned a 13-point deficit to a 65-61 lead entering the final frame.
Meralco would never trail since then thanks to big hits by Allein Maliksi to open the fourth, and a telling 15-0 run behind Reynel Hugnatan, Baser Amer, and Raymond Almazan towards an 85-67 lead with 5:14 left proved to be the beginning of the end for Ginebra.
