‘Batang Mabolo’ celebrates Sudan Daniel’s life with mural in Cembo

After over a decade in the country, Sudan Daniel has definitely touched a lot of hearts.

He left his mark in San Beda, in Titan, and in Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3. Besides those, he also embraced his role as a ‘Batang Mabolo.’

So when the 33-year-old American passed away last Saturday, Christian Garcia, a former workmate of his at Titan, immediately gathered his group, got his paintbrush, and created a mural to celebrate the life of Daniel.

“We met Su when he moved to our place. He was very kind to everyone – a very respectful man,” shared Garcia. “Then a few years later, I quit my profession for a while and worked with him at Titan, albeit a different department.

“That made our bond stronger. We offered free basketball clinics here in Makati, and Su was one of the coaches and trainers. That’s why all the kids love him and greet him whenever they saw him.”

The mural is located in a court in Cembo, Makati, and is parallel to the flat Daniel used to live in.

It only took a couple of days for Garcia to finish the project. Since then, fans have placed flowers and candles as offerings.

For Garcia, this won’t be just a temporary painting – it will be a permanent fixture in the street court of Cembo.

“He was family to the community. His memory should always be here, and stories about him should always be told to the next generation in our community.”
