Three potential first-round draft picks for the 2021 PBA Rookie Draft are likely to be ineligible due to papers.
This, as Jason Brickman, Jeremiah Grey, and Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser have yet to secure required documents for Fil-foreign players, particularly from the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
“I got a message the other day saying that they’re not eligible until they submit those requirements,” agent Charlie Dy, who handles all three players, told the Power and Play program hosted by Noli Eala, Saturday morning.
The deadline for submission of Fil-foreigners’ documents, namely the DOJ Recognition and BI Affirmation, is still on March 9, but the three could not handle the paperwork personally as they find it hard to book flights to the country due to the COVID-19 situation in the United States.
“Actually, hindi na siya aabot [doon sa deadline] kasi with the pandemic, they can’t even fly in,” lamented the veteran sports agent.
“Hindi puwede [to follow ‘yung mga papeles], so they have to wait for next year.”
The trio has spent some time here in the country, playing for San Miguel Alab Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League. They were with the squad last season until the league decided to suspend play due to the pandemic.
Brickman and Grey have also suited up for Mighty Sports Philippines in overseas meets, such as the William Jones Cup in Taiwan and in the Dubai Invitational Basketball Tournament. MSP struck gold in both tilts with the two on board.
The draft proceedings are scheduled on March 14. It remains to be seen if a draft combine will be held.
