Duckeyyy says BREN Esports’ experiments got best of them in ONIC loss

BREN Esports’ brand of play has brought them to greener pastures over the past year.

After dominating on Philippine soil by winning the MPL-Philippines Season Six championship and The Nationals Season Two Mobile Legends conference, the Bernard Chong-owned franchise went on to conquer the globe through a momentous victory in the M2 World Championships.

But coach Francis “Duckeyyy” Glindro and his boys know that at a certain point, playing the standard way will not always be enough. And so the reigning MPL-Philippines champion mixed it up a bit in their Season Seven debut against ONIC PH.

“Nag-try kami ng mga panibagong heroes eh. I feel na nandoon na kami sa punto na kailangan namin talagang creative para makita namin ‘yung extent ng capabilities ng team namin,” said Duckeyyy in BREN Esports’ post-game press conference.

“For us, on a serious note, kailangan naming seryosohin na ‘yung mga laro. Kasi for the first series, the game plan was ‘pag laruan muna, try out different things. Kaya nakikita niyo ‘yung Angela, ‘yung Diggie, ‘yung mga heroes na ganun. So we’re trying out different heroes seeing if they’re viable.”

Unfortunately for them, though, the plan did not succeed.

Its dominant Game One victory featured a standard lineup composed of Benedetta, Mathilda, Pharsa, Silvanna, and Lapu Lapu. This time, BREN Esports fielded in an Esmeralda-Angela combo of Charles “FlapTzy” Canon and CJ “Ribo” Ribo in Game Two.

The duo wreaked havoc all over ONIC PH in the early game, but the late-game prowess of Jaylord “Hate” Gonzalez’s Roger and Christian “Iy4knu” Manaog’s Alice proved to be too much for them to overcome.

BREN Esports then followed it up with a Granger and Diggie selection for Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno and Allan “Lusty” Castromayor, respectively, in Game Three. Still, ONIC PH’s early snowball gave the roster no chance to break through.

“For the longest time kasi kami ‘yung ginagamitan ng Diggi, kaya sabi ko, ‘Try naman natin tayo mag-Diggie’. E ayaw rin gumana sa’min e. Mukhang ayaw talaga sa’min ng Diggie,” quipped Duckeyyy.

“Puwede ba Moonton tanggalin niyo na ‘yung hero?”

With that, ONIC PH turned a once-lopsided series to an easy 2-1 reverse sweep of the defending champions.

BREN Esports vows to be more prepared against Nexplay Esports on Sunday, March 21, at 7:30 PM.
