Clark to host two FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers groups in Feb

Coming off a successful hosting of the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup, Clark, Pampanga is set to host another bubble.

FIBA Asia has awarded Clark hosting rights of two groups in the 2021 Asia Cup Qualifiers.

The groups are Group A which includes the Philippines, South Korea, Indonesia, and Thailand and Group C which has New Zealand, Australia, Guam, and Hong Kong.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas offered to host at most two groups last month during the FIBA Central Board meeting as the world governing body lauded the on-going PBA season.

Group A, sans South Korea, played its second window in Manama, Bahrain.

The Philippines is 3-0 while South Korea is 2-0. Indonesia is 1-2 while Thailand is dead last with a 0-4 slate.

Group C, however, has only played a total of three games.

New Zealand is 2-0 while Australia is 1-1. Both Guam and Hong Kong are 0-1.

Japan, on the other hand, will host Group B, which is composed of Chinese-Taipei, Japan, Malaysia, and China while Maname will again host two more groups, D and F.

Doha hosts Group E.

Sixteen teams will advance to the Asia Cup proper which takes place from August 17 to 29 in Indonesia.
