The National Collegiate Athletic Association will push through with its 96th season.
Multiple sources closely monitoring the situation have told Tiebreaker Times that the Grand Old League is finishing the protocols for its ‘unique set-up’ in its resumption come the second quarter of 2021.
And the season will have a new format.
For Seniors Basketball, Women’s Volleyball, and Men’s Volleyball, the 10 member schools will be split into two brackets.
Letran, Perpetual Help, Lyceum, Mapua, and Jose Rizal U will take part in a bubble in Intramuros. San Beda, Arellano, EAC, San Sebastian, and College of Saint Benilde will then be in a bubble in either Recto or Mendiola.
Each bracket will play a total of 20 elimination round games, with the top two advancing to a crossover Final Four. The top teams in each bracket will be granted a twice-to-beat incentive.
The semifinals will take place in another bubble in either Arellano or San Beda. The student-athletes of the remaining teams will undergo an almost two-week quarantine before entering the bubble.
The Finals will still be a best-of-three and will take place in either Arellano or San Beda as well.
One of Tiebreaker Times’ sources estimated that the three tournaments will have a duration of about seven weeks.
For Seniors Swimming and Track and Field, the league is also planning to hold the events inside separate bubbles.
The NCAA will also hold multiple online sporting events.
An announcement is set to be made by the league next week.
