Mark Alfafara’s clutch tower defense helped the Archers escape a tight Game Three to score a 2-1, come-from-behind win over the Eagles on the second day of the Smart Omega Crossover, Tuesday.
After surviving a crucial siege that erased all of their turrets, the Archers found themselves in another skirmish with the Eagles.
Despite losing Tony “Otit” Senedrin (Thamuz) first in the clash, Kenneth “Kenji” Villa (Hayabusa) was able to turn things around for the Archers. He scored a double kill in a four-man wipe that saw the Eagles’ early advantage turn to dust.
Richard Solis (Silvanna) almost salvaged the victory for the Eagles. However, Alfafara (Valir) was able to recall in time to push Solis away from the tower – paving the way for Kenji and Kevin Quiambao (Esmeralda) to end the match.
“Actually, nagtilian kami ng bahagya doon sa Discord kasi ayun nga, naiwan namin ‘yung base ng walang magde-defend, so madalian kami. Hindi ko na nakita ‘yung dalawang kasama namin na nag-push pala,” said Alfafara on the crucial play.
“Biglang may sumigaw na lang, si idol Kenji ata or si idol Otit na ‘wag daw pauuwiin si Solis.”
Kenji led the way for the Archers with eight kills, five deaths, and four assists using one of his signature heroes. Quiambao added nine kills, three deaths, and four assists, while Alfafara had a 3-4-6 statline.
On the other hand, Toshi’s 12-3-7 kill-death-assist tally with his Gusion fell down the drain. SJ Belangel, who played the tank this time around, had two kills, four deaths, and nine assists.
In the other match, the troika of John Vic De Guzman, Kemark Cariño, and Jankurt “KurTzy” Matira powered the Lions’ dominant 2-0 sweep of the Bulldogs.
De Guzman, who played the carry role using Helcurt, set the tempo for the Lions in the opening match. He tallied 11 kills, a death, and six assists in the match that lasted for only 11 minutes.
Meanwhile, San Beda’s Cariño provided the support with seven kills, two deaths, and a whopping 20 assists with his Pharsa. KurTzy, on the other hand, provided eight kills and eight assists with his Gusion.
Salic “Hadjizy” Imam was the lone bright spot for the Bulldogs in Game One with five deaths. However, he recorded a game-high nine deaths in the match.
The Lions sang the same song in Game Two, burying the Bulldogs deep to clinch the match as early as the 12-minute mark.
De Guzman once again played stellar with Helcurt, putting up five kills, a death, and three assists. Joshua Tagala (Hylos) had a clean 3-0-8 kill-death-assist-tally while Heath chipped in six kills and four assists.
