Doha to host 2030 Asian Games

Doha beat Riyadh for the hosting rights of the 2030 Asian Games after the two nations struck a deal, Wednesday evening.

In the breakthrough deal, Qatar will host the 2030 edition of the continental meet, while Saudi Arabia gets the 2034 Games.

There has been hostility between the two nations, since Saudi Arabia has a trade-and-travel restriction against Qatar.

The deal brokered by the two nations has resulted in the Olympic Council of Asia unanimously agreeing that the winner of the voting would host the 2030 meet, while the runner-up gets the next hosting.

This will be the second time Qatar will be hosting the Asian Games, with the first in 2006.

“That means no winner, no loser,” OCA president Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah of Kuwait.

“Thank you, Asia, for solidarity and coordination.”

Qatar had pledged that it will organize an Asiad like no other, promising an exceptional experience for all participants and spectators.

Hangzhou and Aichi-Nagoya are the hosts of the 2022 and 2026 Asiads, respectively.
