Jayson Mama’s title opportunity against IBF World Flyweight Champion Moruti Mthalane has been called off.
Boxing South Africa has been forced to cancel the card slated for December 20 in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa after Tomo Promotions “failed to meet basic requirements to enable BSA to sanction and give credibility to the event.”
“The failure by the Promoter to meet basic tournament requirements has subsequently left BSA with no option but to cancel the tournament however affording the Promoter the opportunity to communicate the cancellation and further manage the consequences which regrettably, the Promoter has failed to equally do so.”
Mama (15-0, 8KOs) was supposed to face Mthalane (39-2, 26KOs). He already left the country last Wednesday.
“Excited na po ako sa laban kasi po matagal ko na pong pinapangarap na lalaban po sa world championship. Kaya ito po, may opportunity na pong dumating, kaya ginrab ko na po at excited na po talaga ako,” the 23-year-old told The Hit List.
He has also self-trained during the quarantine in hopes of getting this shot.
It is still unknown when the bout will push through.
