Abueva, Phoenix agree in principle for 3-year, 15M deal

Calvin Abueva will spend the twilight of his career in Phoenix.

This as the 32-year-old utility forward has agreed in principle in signing a three-year, maximum contract extension with the Dennis Uy-owned franchise, Tuesday.

Abueva and his manager Governor Delta Pineda have had a meeting of the minds with Phoenix’s brass in a meeting, said Fuel Masters team manager Paolo Bugia.

Though the amount was not divulged to Tiebreaker Times, it will most likely net Abueva P15,120,000 over the next 36 months. This does not include per-game, post-season, and individual award bonuses.

Moreover, this will make the Abueva and Matthew Wright duo stick with Phoenix until 2022 as the latter signed his extension early last year.

And Abueva deserves every penny of it.

Coming off a 16-month suspension, Abueva showed no rust inside the PBA Bubble in Pampanga, posting norms of 13.67 points, 10.67 rebounds, 6.67 assists, and 1.33 steals per contest.

The product of San Sebastian helped the Fuel Masters to a semis finish in the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup.

With this, Phoenix will be a force to be reckoned with in the PBA for the next few years.
