Jomary Torres suffered another first round defeat as Ritu Phogat of India took a technical knockout win (3:56), Friday to open ONE: Big Bang at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Save for the first few seconds of the bout that saw the 24-year-old native of Zamboanga connect with combinations, it was all Phogat in this one.
“I feel amazing. I fight for my country and my family,” said Phogat.
Just 39 seconds into the three-round atomweight bout, the 26-year-old grappler out of Evolve MMA was able to take down the Catalan Fighting System standout.
From there, Phogat switched positions with ease, eventually gaining side-control with 1:35 left.
“The Indian Tigress” then trapped Torres’ right arm for the crucifix before landing 17 unanswered elbows that called for the stoppage.
It was another devastating defeat for Torres, who last experienced a win back on January 26, 2018 — a TKO win over April Osenio.
Torres has lost her fifth straight bout, falling to 4-4-1.
Phogat hiked her record to a pristine 4-0 slate.
