E-Gilas dethroned by Australia in FIBA Esports Open II

Regional newcomers Australia completed its invasion of the FIBA Esports Open II Southeast Asia and Oceania Conference.

E-Gilas saw their dominion over the division fall, suffering a 54-69 loss to the E-Boomers in Game Two of the Grand Finals, Sunday evening.

Australia rode the hot hands of Vassallo in the third quarter, tallying 19 points to the Philippines’ 10, to take its biggest lead of the game at 25, 57-32.

The Filipinos showed signs of life in the opening of the final frame with Rial, Clark, and Custer hitting their own shots to trim the deficit to 19 points.

However, JAG59622 ended the Philippines’ hopes after dropping seven consecutive points to put Australia away, 69-45, with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

Shintarou put up one last stand, pouring six points in a 9-0 run in the final seconds to settle for a 69-54 result.

Waurk, who was named MVP of the tournament, tallied 18 points in the match. Meanwhile, JAG59622 put up 13 points, eight rebounds, and three assists for the E-Boomers.

Dlaey fired 15 points all in the first half through three-pointers.

Shintarou finished with 13 points in Game Two while Clark had 12 points. Rial, who poured eight in the first half, ended with 11 for E-Gilas.

E-Gilas – who toppled Indonesia in the inaugural tournament for the title – lost Game One to the E-Boomers, 54-62, earlier in the day.
