Tried and tested will be E-Gilas Pilipinas’ lineup when it takes on Indonesia and Australia in the second edition of the FIBA Esports Open this weekend.
The team, powered by Playbook Laus Esports and sanctioned by both the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and the Philippine Esports Organization, brings back the core of Izzo, Rak, Clark, Shintarou, Rial, and Aguila — who now uses the name Custer.
“The FIBA Esports Open II gives the nation another opportunity to celebrate our passion for basketball through friendly competition with our peers from around the world,” says Al Panlilio, SBP president.
“I’m confident that Team Pilipinas will once again show the best of what our country has to offer in the sport that we Filipinos love – whether it’s on the hardcourt or online.”
Out though is Alt as he will be replaced by Arnie “ElChapo” Sison, an eight-time 2K Veterans League Champion.
“We are thrilled to once again represent the nation in the FIBA Esports Open II,” said Richard Brojan, who co-manages Team Pilipinas with Paul Laus from Playbook Laus Esports.
“Being invited back is both an honor and a challenge to Team Pilipinas, which we’ll meet with passion and sportsmanship in the true spirit of Philippine Basketball.”
Opening day will see the Philippines take on Indonesia at 6:30 and 7:30 PM on Saturday followed by a back-to-back with Australia at 8:00 and 9:20 PM.
On Sunday, the Philippines faces Indonesia and Australia at 6:30 and 7:30 PM, respectively. The Grand Finals take place afterward.
