Jack Animam dominates in UBA debut as Shih Hsin routs Taiwan U

Despite a nine-month layoff, Jack Animam had herself a game in her University Basketball Alliance debut, powering Shih Hsin to a 115-44 rout of Taiwan University, Monday at the Taiwan University of Science and Technology Gym.

The 21-year-old’s last competitive game was back on December 10 during the 30th Southeast Asian Games. Now, though, she tallied 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field, alongside six steals, five rebounds, and three blocks to power the defending champions to a win in its title defense.

Animam, who is taking a master’s degree in advertising, scored her first points of the game just seconds into the contest after a beautiful dish from Lin Die.

Eagerness then caught up with the 6-foot-5 Filipina. She picked up her second foul during the closing minutes of the opening frame.

Still, it did not stop the NU product from pouring it on. She led Shih Hsin’s 34-point third canto to build an insurmountable 93-27 lead.

Shih Hsin led by as much as 77 points in the lopsided affair, 106-29.

Also having good outings were senior Lin Die with 18 points, eight rebounds, and four assists; senior Chen Yuti with 16 points and five steals; sophomore Yang Shuyan with 15 points off the bench.

As a team, Shih Hsin shot a whopping 54.1-percent from the field compared to just 25.6-percent from Taiwan University, who scored just seven points in both the first and second quarters.

Chen Yixuan led Taiwan University with 12 points.

There will be no rest for Animam and SHU, as they take on Southeast University of Science and Technology on Tuesday. SUCT lost to Taiwan University of Science and Technology, 41-87, earlier in the day.
