A super team is brewing in the Premier Volleyball League.
Armed forces rivals Air Force and Army are in talks of forming one team for the 2021 PVL Open Conference which is tentatively scheduled to take place late first quarter of 2021 inside a bubble in Laguna.
This development was bared by none other than PVL president Ricky Palou.
“We are hearing that there will be a merger with Army and Air Force,” shared Palou during Tuesday’s edition of the PSA Forum, which is powered by Smart and presented by San Miguel Corporation, Go For Gold PH, MILO Philippines, Amelie Hotel Manila, Braska Restaurant, and PAGCOR with Upstream Media as the official webcast partner.
This will be a much-needed boost for the two teams as Air Force finished in fifth place during the 2019 Open Conference while Army followed at sixth.
Moreover, deep will be the potential squad as Army is bannered by the likes of Jovelyn Gonzaga, Royce Tubino, Tin Agno, Nene Bautista, and Ging Balse while Air Force has Dell Palomata, Wendy Semana, and Joy Cases.
Since enlisted personnel cannot enter into professional contracts, the Games and Amusements Board have assured that it will give all players of Air Force-Army special guest licenses.
“At first, we had a problem because the Armed Forces teams will not be allowed to turn pro. We discussed this issues with Chairman Baham [Mitra],” said Palou.
“GAB will allow them to join by issuing a special guest license.”
Besides this team, Creamline, Petro Gazz, Choco Mucho, Motolite, Perlas, Chef’s Classic, and Bali Pure are still part of the league’s 2021 season.
“We’re hoping that more corporations will join the PVL. That will be good for volleyball. Dadami ang teams and players. We’re open to new teams. But we’d like to limit it to maybe 10 or 12 at most,” said Palou.
