E-Gilas Pilipinas suffered a brutal 70-53 loss against the Australia E-Boomers, to open its Southeast Asian Conference title retention bid in the FIBA Esports Open II, Saturday night.
Up by just three in the third quarter, 39-36, Australia put on 10 straight points to end the salvo via two dunks by Squogs and back-to-back triples from Waurk to stretch its lead to 10 heading into the payoff period, 49-36.
Then the E-Boomers continued to pound the Playbook Laus Esports-powered E-Gilas in the fourth quarter to reach their largest lead in the game at 21, from a CQOPR trey with 39.2 ticks left in the game.
The full-court defense of the E-Boomers was in full effect the whole match, resulting in shotclock violations for the Philippines.
The two-man game of point guard Waurk and big man Squogs proved to be the biggest difference, providing 26 and 22 points, respectively for Australia.
Shintarou, who was doubled team the whole game, had 21 points for the Philippines. Rial backstopped him with 13 points of his own.
E-Gilas look to get its first win when it go against Indonesia, later at 6:30 pm.
