Topex Robinson promoted as full-time Phoenix head coach

Interim no more.

Phoenix Super LPG has promoted Topex Robinson as head coach effective today, Nov. 1, the team said in a statement.

Robinson was assigned to man the sidelines for the Fuel Masters on an interim basis following the shock firing of Louie Alas last September.

“We look forward to achieving more with him as he continues to further develop the team’s potential, while establishing a franchise with a winning culture,” the team said.

Per sources, the team waited for the veteran mentor’s contract to expire on Oct. 31 before fully handing the reins to the 45-year-old Robinson.

This is the first official head coaching gig of the cager-turned-coach in Asia’s pioneering pro league.

Robinson first came to the Dennis Uy-owned franchise in 2017 together with Alas, as they both came from the Alaska Aces.

He was the associate head coach of the champion bench tactician, who steered Phoenix to a semifinal appearance in last season’s Philippine Cup.

Robinson, so far, has been doing a solid job mentoring the Fuel Masters in the 2020 Philippine Cup as evidenced by their 4-3 record.
